Front Yard Pinot Noir

Front Yard was fun. For starters, the principal player was a close friend, Bill Higgins, one of the founders of Real Restaurants (Mustards Grill, Fog City Diner, Buckeye Roadhouse, Bungalow 44, Betelnut, Picco, Tra Vigne etc.).

Years ago Bill decided he wanted to be a vintner. He planted Pinot Noir on the hillside below his home in Mill Valley. The vineyard had the look of any planting one would find in the Napa Valley. He asked me to design the label and help him name his wine project.

The name came in a flash. The vineyard sat below his home facing the street. “Front Yard” seemed logical to me. Bill and his family agreed. With that decision made we took things a little further. Why not illustrate the vineyard and add lawn between the vines. Then we added an old lawn mower.
