Sunflower Cannabis Package

I met Mike Lambert years ago when he was the president of Benton-Lane Winery in Monroe, Oregon. We refined Benton-Lane’s label design (which I also created) and produced several more varietal iterations and other projects. When Mike moved on to Iris Vineyards in Eugene, we produced a clean slate package design for Iris’ distinctive Pinot Noir an Pinot Gris wines.

After leaving Iris Vineyards things got really interesting. Mike became the marketing director for Wild West Growers, Oregon’s largest cannabis cultivator. Mike’s objective was to move marijuana away from the Grateful Dead look and feel. He focused his premium wine marketing skills on upgrading the image of the industry.  He started by elevating the look and feel of Wild West Growers’ packaging.

Sunflower is the first new package design to reflect this image. It was my first cannabis product design and I was delighted with the challenge. I wanted something bright and eye-catching. At the same time I wanted to break from the western-cowboy look that prevailed in existing packaging. My initial design was unanimously approved. It will be introduced this fall as Wild West Growers premium brand.
