Mustards Grill in the Napa Valley was the birthplace of California cuisine. It’s where the growing food and wine communities merged and thrived together. It’s where my friend Bill Higgins and his two partners, Cindy Pawlcyn and Bill Upson broke ground on their new enterprise, Mustards Grill and Real Restaurants.
I was lucky to be at the right place at the right time. I never tire of seeing Mustards’ sign on Highway 29. It’s still there and unchanged as the day it went up 30 years ago.
I have been fortunate to have participated in many of Real Restaurants’ design projects over the years. The body of work included identity suites for many of their properties, cross marketing cards, onsite outdoor displays, special event promotions, menu suites, wine label package design for single barrel wine offerings for Napa Valley vintners, advertising and email marketing campaigns.
Awards have been won including a New York Society of Illustrators medal for Real Restaurants’ logo. The restaurant promotional cards have been featured in hard bound books. Plus, there is the satisfaction of having this work out their in the marketplace.
